"The most friendly, caring and professional..."

About: Alder Hey Hospital

What I liked

My daughter was admitted to ICU at Alder Hey on 1st April 2009 after both Halton and Warrington hospitals failed to diagnose her illness. From the minute my daughter arrived on a life support machine to the intensive care unit at Alder Hey we were dealt with by the most friendly, warm hearted and caring professionals that I have ever had the fortune to meet. Not only did we have a daughter that at the time had a very serious, undiagnosed and life-threatening illness but we also had 2 year old twin boy's that we had to look after, the support for us was there by allowing the boys to be with us at all times. My daughter was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis and ADEM which left her paralysed from the chest down and caused her lungs to collapse and her lower body to shut down. I could not thank all of the staff enough and for the 12 weeks that we were there we were looked after so well. Any questions that I asked were answered with honesty but compassion and nothing was kept from us. My daughter will always need medical care for the rest of her life and I am gutted that she will need to leave the care of Alder Hey when she becomes an adult but thankfully that won't be for another 8 years.

My special thanks go to the doctors and the nurses in the ICU for doing such an amazing, life changing job but most of all to my daughter's consultant. As a family we owe them so much. Following the care my daughter received and is still receiving she is now trying to decide whether to become a Physio or specialise in Neurology herself, either way I owe my daughters life and quality of life to this amazing hospital, thanks x

What could be improved
