"Wasted appointment"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Trauma and Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Over a two hour round trip to the relatively new Royal Infirmary Edinburgh to see a vascular consultant. Taken on time, which I felt was very unusual. The consultant had a look at my legs and said they look nasty, (varicose veins), and the following conversation ensued:

The consultant asked what I would like them to do and said that some people only come to see them for advice.

I asked what they would advise.

The consultant said that they could not say until they had seen the results of my scans.

I asked where I go for the scans and was told that I would have to return to the hospital to have them done.

Whole conversation lasted around 5 minutes and as far as I could see a waste of his time and certainly a waste of mine.

Took three months to get this appointment, I suspect I will wait the same for the scans and a further 3 months to get another appointment with the consultant.

This seems inefficient to me.

Dear MrFraggle,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am sorry that it wasn't more positive. I have shared this with the Vascular team so that they are aware of your feedback. If you would like us to look into this further for you, please contact the Patient Experience Team with your details.

Kind Regards

Helen
