"Help with eating disorder in Forth Valley"

About: NHS Forth Valley

(as the patient),

I have used the eating disorders service before when I attended a 13 week course. I was due to attend another, but it was cancelled due to lack of funding so am told.

This has left me with no help, and I find it very hard. The service I've received when I've attended hospital has always been fantastic, but there seems to be nothing for me by ways of help now.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. I'm sorry you feel as if there's nothing in the way of help for you and would like to share some information with you about what is available

The Eating Disorder service in NHS FV did run a 13 week body image group as a pilot, however there were no plans to repeat this as it did not evaluate well and there was little interest from patients in running another body image group specifically at the time.

There are no issues with funding the service.

We are constantly looking at ways to offer groups as this is an ideal way to reach a greater number of people.

Unfortunately we are currently operating a waiting list for our service due to staff shortages. However we do offer a robust out patient service for therapy or dietetic input, and we always prioritise referrals to ensure we see people with a low body weight or medical complications related to their eating disorder in the shortest waiting time

If you have been re-referred to our service you will be offered an appointment in due course. However, if you feel you need to speak to someone sooner rather than later please feel free to contact me to discuss this further. My contact details are Annette on 01786 458628

They have a fantastic B-eat young ambassador in this area who is always able to offer to help, advice and support. I would be able to put you in touch with her or you can access details via B-eat website

Following a discussion with this lady I was able to ascertain that she never in fact attend any NHS provision for Eating Disorder but did have contact with the voluntary sector

I was therefore able to give her accurate information regarding accessing NHSFV services and further independant support. Annette
