Firstly, the treatment `I received and the kindness, quality and professionalism of the staff cannot be faulted.
I attended a pre-op assessment and then was given a date for the operation on my left eye. On attending on the day of the operation,we were given a briefing by the staff on eye care after the operation.
This involved obtaining Micropore tape to hold the eye shield and sterile swabs to wash the eye each morning.
These were not supplied and must be bought, so it would have been much better to give this requirement at the pre -op assessment so you could have them at home in readiness.
One person receiving the briefing lived alone and it would have been difficult for them to have gone and obtained these on the day of the operation.
The second observation. I would make is that there is a disconnect between the leaflets given, the briefing and the eye drops.
The leaflet says four applications a day for two weeks and then two a day for a further two weeks.
The medication is marked four times a day for four weeks.
I had to get extra drops being inexpert at administering and the pharmacy instructions were four times a day for two weeks and two times for two weeks.
Clarification would remove uncertainty for the patient!!
Having said that, this is intended to be helpful to improve patient experience - it is an administrative improvement -the care from the staff is excellent and cannot be criticised.
I have been discharged and can now see much better and you cannot ask more than that!
