"not getting to see a consultant"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I have glaucoma and feel my sight is getting worse I have not seen a consultant for many months. Last week I had an appointment with a doctor at 10. 45am, I gave my name in and was informed the clinic was cancelled as the doctor had called in sick. I was very upset that nobody had rung me I was at home till 10. 15am. I do realise it was  unavoidable to cancel the clinic, but I was upset because I was not informed beforehand.   I live a distance from the hospital. paying £30. 00 for taxis, I am a carer for my husband he has dementia so he was with me also it was an effort to be at clinic at the allotted time. I feel the situation was badly handled with little care for patients.

We are very sorry to learn of the inconvenience caused by the short-notice cancellation of your clinic appointment in the Eye Department. If you would like to discuss this further with our Patient Relations Team then they can be contacted on 0800 432 0251 or email wih-tr.Patientrelations@nhs.net.
