"Poor bedside manner"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / General surgery Stepping Hill Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Arrived there on a Saturday alone, unwell - had been for weeks - with a doctors referral letter. I was escorted to an empty 4 bed ward. The morning nurse raised no communication for the next nurses at all, left the room and as it was going dusk never turned the light on also there was no water nor did they ask if I needed anything to drink. There was no bedding on the bed, I sat in my coat in a chair alone. From 5 - 9:30.

The same nurse came to take my blood and failed, their bedside manner was awful, nurse number 2 very little to say but nicer. Nurse 3 better but still unpleasant it was like the ward from hell and I was sick. Then a doctor - bingo! At last blood. The first nurse asked whether I'd had enough fluid, the second the same but never brought me a jug of free water. Kindness, I think they left that at their own front door.

At 9:30 I was told I was on the wrong ward and they had no record of me being at the ward as a day care. "Ok" I reply! "Do you want a porter" said the nice nurse I hadn't seen before "yes please". Off the the surgical assessment ward, couldn't wait. The porter was great, I was upset and very down.

Anyway to cut the tale short my stay there was good. But on the Saturday I had to go back to jasmine suite - horror! And in the morning the same nurse who took on the morning shifts gave out water in jugs looked at me stared and never said a word to me. All through their shift spoke to the others but not to me.

There are lots of issues I could add but it would be getting personal about my health on this blog. It was hell... And the best going away present the hospital gave me was sickness bugs coming though both ends.
