"Rheumatology"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Rheumatology (Joint conditions)

(as the patient),

Have been seen by Aberdeen Rheumatology Dept and feel completed deflated because of the treatment received there.

The doctor I saw was so off hand and brusque in manner that it is impossible to exchange information.   They may be excellent in the field but I'm the expert in my body!   (A professor in Leeds taught me that - he said we see patients for approx. an hour a year but you have to live with your condition 24/7/365! )  If I say I am in pain then I'm in pain, if my blood tests don't show the requisite pain markers that's not my fault after all I have been told more than once that I'm atypical. I'm angry with myself that I didn't take Leeds up on their offer to continue monitoring my condition.   I could phone a rheumatology helpline there and get advice quickly without seeing any doctor (they probably were involved in the background but I wasn't taking up clinic time).

It is not just the doctor I saw either the doctors I came into contact with in Aberdeen have exactly the same manner - do they get a kick out of making people feel small and timewasters?   Oh and I've yet to be seen by them on the first appointment that has been sent to me - each and every one has been cancelled and rescheduled and even has subsequent cancellations.   I am ashamed to say these things about the dept in the main hospital in the area where I was born and bred.  I have had very positive experiences with other departments in the hospital.
