"Horrendously treated"

About: Hereford County Hospital

My daughter was taken in with a ruptured ovarian cyst.. Her doctor and 90% of all staff were lovely.

During her 5 hours in a and e she had to wait 2 and a half hours for the prescribed morphine to be administered, when the consultant came back and found out she hadn't been given any he was seriously unhappy and apologised to her ,which was very appreciated.

On the day she was discharged the consultant said she could stay or go home with oromorph and other meds if she could cope ,she naturally picked to go home.

Whilst in her bed she was talking to me on the phone to arrange transport home and a male nurse came along and said "right I'm getting you a wheelchair" in an aggressive tone . My daughter replied that she was in a lot of pain because she was already nearly an hour overdue for the oromorph and she really needed to have the painkiller before she could move into the wheelchair . I heard him then shout " so you're refusing to go " . My daughter was upset by this and I heard her crying and her fiancé say "she just needs some pain relief" and he then yelled " I will rip you out of that bed " . My daughters fiancé is such a calm man and I heard him say " go away, just go away" the nurse then yelled " I'm going to fetch security and then you will get out " .... he then stormed out . My daughter was crying and her fiancé was totally shocked and quite frankly I couldn't believe what I'd just heard .

After I'd reassured them for a minute over the phone I then telephoned the hospital and spoke to a manager who was as shocked as me . She went to the ward and heard not only from my daughter but also from other patients on the ward who were absolutely disgusted inthe nurses behaviour.

The manager apologised and quickly got her some oromorph . She also said that the nurse would be back to apologise too .... He did return but his response was " well it just been busy " not sorry !

The manager did call me the next day to apologise again which was lovely of her and she said that she hoped the nurse had opolgised too . I explained his response and that it really wasn't an opology at all .

Please don't think that we have any kind of previous issues ,I have nothing but total praise for several departments ,opthmology, imaging and Rheumatology especially.

I do understand that the pressures of work ect can push people but the nurses behaviour was deplorable and then to not opolgise is disgusting. If he would have just said I'm sorry ,I wouldn't have dreamt of writing this .
