Had a gynaecological operation/procedure done a few weeks ago. I was in ward 308.
I experienced a lack of care and warmth from nursing staff.
The bedside manner of my consultant and ward doctor was lacking as though i was just another operation.
The staff down in theatre were good though - Caring, friendly and warm.
I was bleeding, in pain and didn't feel well after my operation. I needed the toilet and asked one of the nurses for assistance as i felt light headed. I was made to walk to the toilet with blood running down my legs. No pad and pants were looked out for me or offered. When on the toilet the nurse just threw a pack of wipes outside the toilet door and said, you might want to give yourself a clean. I struggled and eventually got cleaned up myself.
Got back to my bed just wanted to sleep. The nurse gave me all these tablets in a small plastic cup wasn't told what they were and they just walked off and left me to it.
I stayed the night in the ward and the next morning a nursing assistant threw some towels on my bed and said, you might want to take a shower and they just walked off. Again, no offer of any assistance considering i was still feeling weak and light headed.
I felt as though i was an inconvenience and couldn't wait to get home.
Hopefully my experience is not the norm.
