I was taken by ambulance to A&E at Blackburn with a suspected heart attack. to be literally dumped on a trolley in a corridor alone, at around 4am, ( My watch didn't work and there was no clock) behind locked corridor doors and have no one come near until the day staff came on is nothing short of a disgrace. Once the paramedics had handed over my notes and left (about 45 minutes) I was totally alone and in pain. No phone signal so I couldn't even phone family. Eventually , after several hours, I had blood tests which confirmed a heart attack and was admitted to the critical care ward. I could never praise those staff enough; they were absolute angels; one lady in particular took the time to explain what had happened and what would happen and tried her best to calm a very scared, anxious patient. After having stents fitted, again by superb staff, I was discharged. However, the total lack of follow up information or chance to speak to a doctor was not good. I didn't even know until I got t home and read a very technical discharge letter that I had two more blockages and would need further treatment. I know the doctors are busy but please, for the patients sake, give them 5 minutes with someone who can explain properly. Having to contact your own GP later is not necessarily good or helpful for many people. I'm still struggling badly with one of the tablets and can't get helpful answers anywhere. I would only feel confident with advice from cardiology but am apparently not expected to contact them- only my GP.
"Critical cardiac care wonderful. A&E appalling."
