"Day surgery: Outstanding Experience"

About: Victoria Hospital / Day Intervention Unit

(as the patient),

I was admitted at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy in the day surgery ward to get wisdom teeth removed. From the moment I arrived I felt at ease, all staff members were cheery & helpful! Making jokes with all patients to make the experience more pleasant. I’d never been in hospital before and never undergone any surgery so was pretty nervous! The staff were amazing at reassuring me, when it came to going into surgery I met the surgeon team! They were all happy and really chatty with me asking about my life and distracting me from what was going on.

The next thing I remember is waking up in the recovery lounge with another nurse! As I woke she must have noticed I was cold and placed a warm blanket over me. After this I was a little confused but so happy to see Craig the head nurse from the ward I had been on previously. It was reassuring to see a happy and familiar face! I then spent the next few hours in a bit of a dream getting checked up on every twenty minutes. I was given some custard to eat and allowed some water to drink. I then was told I could leave in a couple of hours, as my phone had died they contacted my mum to arrange this. Overall my whole experience was outstanding, I felt so comfortable the whole time! The staff could not have done anything more!

Hi Tooth girl,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to give the team some feedback via CareOpinion.

We like to think that by doing the little things properly, then the big things are easier to manage. This includes doing our best to relax patients and make them smile/laugh, because we know its not easy coming in to see us. Hopefully by doing all the wee things, then it makes your life easier.

I have shared your feedback with all the team and they are delighted to receive such wonderful praise:o)

May I take this opportunity to thank you again for your very kind thoughts, and wish you well in your recovery. Remember if you need anything, feel free to call us.

Many thanks and kind regards
