"Dignity and respect - hardly"

About: Bermuda Marlowe Partnership

Having spent 2 years losing weight I went to see my GP as I was left with baggy stretched skin all around my middle. I was told "you have done really well and the only way to get rid of the baggy skin in surgically, unfortunately we can't help you with that"

I spent all my savings £6000 on a private operation to remove all the stretched skin and liposuction on the remaining subcutaneous fat.

I was almost perfect with about half a stone to lose. 3 months later I was re-prescribed HRT by a nurse practitioner. I was happy to go back on the HRT I had been on before but she decided to give me something different. I asked if it wold impact my ongoing weight loss, without checking she said 'no you will be fine'.

Within 6 weeks I looked like I had been inflated, my lovely flat tummy looked like an overstuffed hot cross bun, mu backside and thighs were full of jelly like fat. The doctor had no idea what had caused this problem and I was devastated.

All my savings and the surgeons work undermined.

It turned out that the medication was known for rapid and unexplained weight gain.

I joined the gym and cut any fat and carbs out of my diet but this made no difference.

The manufacturer confirmed this can happen but I should return to normal 'over time' . 12 months after stopping the medication and no sign of the effects subsiding the manufacturer told me to talk again to my GP.

I received a call and explained the issue, to say I was treated like an idiot is an understatement, I was told I didn't know what I was talking about so I made a complaint to the practice manager who was due to investigate.

I supplied information and photographs and then received another call from the same GP who again spoke to my like some kind of idiot and suggested he explain how I go about losing weight !!!!! bearing in mind I had previously lost over 7 stone this was insulting.

I had a meeting with the practice manager who was under the impression that the GP had called to apologise and suggested I see a dietitian.

I agreed because I was told they could do tests to find out why I could not shift this jelly like fat stuck on my body.

I saw the dietitian who told me she couldn't help as I probably knew more about diet and nutrition than she did.

I emailed the surgery twice and to date I have had no reply.

I am left high and dry with no help from my surgery and conclude all I can do is switch to another surgery because they just don't care about me or my situation that they caused

Dear patient.

We have tried very hard to address your medical condition and I am very sorry that you are not happy with our service.

I have replied separately to your private email address.

I completely understand if you wish to change surgeries, and we are indeed fortunate in the Basingstoke area to have many good surgeries to choose from.

Regards Karen Blackhall (Practice Manager, Bermuda and Marlowe)
