"Not enough words to express my gratitude"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre Crosshouse Hospital / Clinical Oncology General practices in Ayrshire & Arran University Hospital Ayr / Clinical Oncology

(as the patient),

In May 2008 at the age of 29 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, yesterday I was officially discharged.  If not for the care, treatment and support I received over the past 10 years I would not be here and I thought this the best forum to express my gratitude to all staff that I have been involved with over the years.

Doctors and Practice Nurses (Sandra, Jill and Dianne) at Barns Medical Practice in Ayr

District Nurses who cared for me following my operation

Mr Simpson (now retired) who performed my operation now Mr Bhattacharya and his team, the radiographers who give me a yearly mammogram which was at Ayr now at Crosshouse

All the oncology staff in Ayr (who gave me my chemotherapy) and staff at the clinics in Crosshouse Hospital where I attended yearly appointments, the ward clerks who are very understanding of patients attending appointments and their anxieties.  The Breast Cancer Specialist Nurse, Dr Lumsden, Dr Scott and all the staff who gave me radiotherapy at The Beatson.

I don't think enough praise is given to all the staff that care for hundreds of cancer patients on a daily basis, they are all quite literally life savers.  I look forward to moving on to the next chapter of my life thanks to them all.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Life is for living,

What a 10 years that must have been for you. I can't say how wonderful it is to hear you have been discharged after your 10 year rollercoaster. You must be celebrating; I wonder if a bottle of champagne was uncorked last night!!

Thank you so much for sharing this lovely story. I will take great pleasure in sharing your gratitude with the teams involved. Well done to you too.

I love your selected 'name', it is such a true statement in itself.

All the very best for all the next chapters,

Best wishes,

Eunice

Dear Life is for living,

I have just had a phone call from the lovely Mr Bhattacharya. He was delighted to see your kind post, as were the rest of the team. Your post sparked a few questions in the team, one of which was about specific team members involved in your care. I wonder if I could ask you to drop me an email with your name and date of birth so I can have a brief chat with you, it would be very much appreciated and very helpful. I can be contacted by email on Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and by phone on 01563 826222.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to share this on Care Opinion.

best wishes,

Eunice

Dear Life is for living,

Thank you for taking time to contact me today. You will know by now that we were a little concerned when you said you were discharged. You clarified your discharge was from the Beatson Oncology Centre, which is absolutely brilliant. We are reassured that your Ayrshire and Arran follow up is arranged as it should be (whew!).

It was lovely talking to you today and you are an inspiration.Image title
