"Upset at Hairmyres Canteen"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as a service user),

the canteen at hairmyres is a utter disgrace

for a start there are not enough staff serving or on tills, more than once I  have spent at least 15/20 minutes getting served and paying, if that is what it is like for me what is it like for staff who only get 30/40 minutes for a break how are they supposed to get anything

today I heard staff saying stuff like by the time I get this food my break will be over while another stated something like I guess I am not eating today that's my break up

The prices in the canteen are shocking. how can they get away with these prices??

£5.20 for a TINY slice of lasagne with a small handful of pre bagged salad and lukewarm garlic bread ?????

for that you could get a full meal on a lunch menu in a café and would probably be nicer as well

£4 or something for a tiny square of quiche???

£4.50 something for pasta if you want chips that's extra

PORTION CONTROLED CHIPS!!!

the salad bar is BASIC and totally over priced

how can they get away with it??

DISGUSTED

We have spoken to our service provider at UHH and they have responded as follows; Service times are regularly reviewed and times from entrance to restaurant to payment (out with toasties & Panini) are at an acceptable level throughout these reviews. Staffing levels are in line with the ratio to customers, however at peak times the team may be stretched and additional resources are put in place.

Prices are in line with other NHS hospitals which ISS provide the catering for and are favorable to local establishments. However, I have asked the team to review the pricing structure with our Central Catering Team. We are mindful of the ever increasing food costs which are impacting on every household and managed to negate the impact on our customers at our last tariff review.

I have not received any negative feedback re service times and the team actively pursues feedback as a proactive way of improving our service. In addition we have comment cards in the restaurant area for more discreet feedback

Fresh salad is prepared daily in our kitchen. Again the portions provided are favorable with local establishments. I will review the food quality with the Catering team, however I can advise regular temperature checks on the dishes are completed throughout the service.

We had a more extensive salad bar which was not used and the waste was substantial. We reviewed with customers and implemented the current service; however I will ask the team to review with customers to ensure this still meets their expectations.
