"Still waiting for ophthalmologist appointment"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres University Hospital Hairmyres / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with a condition named retinal Vein Occlusion in May of 2016.

I was referred to this hospital for an emergency,I was under the care of Mr Wong and remained so until he left this department in August of 2017. Mr Wong was a very good consultant and kept you informed of every procedure of your care.

Unfortunately for me my August 2017 appointment was cancelled due to Mr Wong leaving and I was informed that I would receive another appointment within 6 weeks, this did not happen,my next appointment was not until late November 2017, when I saw another consultant and had various tests completed on my eye.

I was told that day by the consultant that I would be required to attend the clinic again in 6 weeks time and to make a further appointment at the reception desk on the way out.

When asking at reception desk for that appointment to be booked I was informed by the receptionist that I would have an appointment sent to my home address.

I never received any appointment and in January 2018 I telephoned the clinic and was assured that an appointment would be sent to me in due course,I have since telephoned the clinic on possibly 3 more times since January 2018 and no appointment has been allocated to me.

My eye hurts and this causes me to worry every day.I have been left in limbo by NHS

This is now the end of August 2018 and still have not received my appointment that should have been in January 2018...……..So it will almost be a full year since I was last seen by any consultant at this department.

Have I faith in the NHS?...…….under these circumstances I would say NO!

Dear Molli,

I'm very sorry to hear that you feel forgotten about. If you could give our Patient Affairs department a call on 01355 585325 and pass on your details then I would be happy to look into this for you.

Kind Regards,

Cameron
