I had my baby girl delivered at Whittington hospital on the 1st of May 2018. Overall a good experience. The things that I didnt like that much are: while I was in my first stage of the labour they just sent me in a reception room to wait until I was ready to deliver. This time I can’t say that they were checking on me, the midwife was just popping in whenever I was making more noise than usual. Because I was feeling drowsy after the morphine dose, I only reacted late and it was late for me to have the epidural. Luckily the second stage wasn’t that long (one hour) and I managed to deal with the pain.
Then after the delivery you get a very small ‘room’ divided by some curtains from the rest of the women and babies. It’s quite noisy to be there for more than a day and some patients can be very rude to the midwives. I was hoping to get a bit more help with the lactation as I wasn’t feeling very confident and I didn’t know how to do it properly. Unfortunately the hospital doesn’t have professional breast pump and the midwives that were on my turn were quite young and I think they were just giving me theory on breastfeeding, and no practice of their own. I didn’t see any lactation advisers while I was there. My baby lost almost 300 grams in the first week because it was quite difficult for me to get confident with the breastfeeding. I just had to figure it out myself, watching loads of videos.
I owe a great thank you to the midwive that brought my baby girl to the world, very polite and patient with me. She was the best! This job suits her well. Thank you team!
