Admission on the day of operation was efficient. There was rather a long wait alone in a booth after initial details had been taken and some uncertainty about what to do with personal belongings. Everything that mattered was dealt with very well. I was amazed at how well I felt after quite a long operation and how little pain relief was needed. I had to call a nurse to find out how to operate the height of the headrest on the bed, so it could save time if a nurse ran through that at an early stage. I suffered no bad after effects from the anaesthetic. A friendly and patient Senior Registrar from the surgical team came to see me and dealt with questions during my short time on the ward. A kind night nurse made me an eye mask out of bandages to enable me to get some sleep! To me, that act of kindness coupled with the fantastic skill of the surgical team and the efficiency of the nurses made me even more proud of our NHS.
