"A Gynaecology consultation"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I attended a Gynecology /appointment at Rapid Access Unit Hairmyres Hospital. Having a previous history of cancer and now experiencing abdominal pain I gave a history of my symptoms and timelines to the Consultant. As you can imagine I am very concerned. I was astonished by the attitude of the consultant who showed little interest in my concerns and almost dismissed me saying I'll be fine as I was ushered out of the door. I have to wait for a scan (which could take up to 2 months before it is carried out) and return to my GP to arrange onward referral to another consultant as she will not do this.

The Dr provided little information and I had to ask many questions to understand what the findings were.

I have came away from appointment concerned  and unsure what to do next.  I also feel the Dr did the examination and was disinterested thereafter regarding my situation.

Dear castronet76,

I would like to apologise that you came away from you appointment with concerns and not knowing what to do next, I can understand your anxiety especially due to your previous medical history. Can I ask you to contact Yvonne Ross, the patient affairs manager at University Hospital Wishaw on 01698 366558 so that you can give her your details which will enable me to look into your concerns and I will be in contact with you once I have done this.

Regards
