"Waiting for appointment since November 2017!!!"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Neurology

Cannot get an appointment, was referred November 2017 still waiting, told wait will now be 48 weeks, nearly a year! Feel completely abandoned with painful condition still undiagnosed. What is happening at QEH neurology? No support, no contact. Just get on with it and it might go away (or be diagnosed at post mortem).

This seems to be a department with many troubles at the moment.

I am extremely sorry to hear that you have had such a long wait for your appointment and that we have not contacted you to keep you advised as to why the wait has been so long. The Neurology Department has been under pressure this year as we have vacancies within the consultant team and are currently trying to recruit to these important positions. In order to ensure that patients are kept safe during this challenging time all referrals have been reviewed on receipt and any that are urgent are prioritised and those patients are seen as soon as possible. Unfortunately this does mean that those who have been referred as a routine referral have waited longer than we would have wanted to receive an appointment date. I understand that routine referrals from November 2017 are now being offered appointments so hopefully you will receive an appointment letter within the next few weeks. I can appreciate that this has been a very worrying and difficult time for you and is not the service either the Neurology service or the Trust wish to provide. I hope that you will be seen in the near future and please accept my apologies on behalf of the Trust for the difficulties that you have experienced.
