"Very disappointed with no support, guidance or..."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

What I liked

18-12-11

Not impressed with doctors, knowledge and support/advice provided.

What could be improved

Staff's communication, empathy towards the patient and better understanding of dealing with some serious problem patient has come to them for. It would be really good, if they wouldn’t have no as an answer to most of the questions, including the request for some advice by the patient. We have been to to the hospital for my wife's early pregnancy complications and we were really worried about losing our first baby, but the doctors/nurses didn't seem to have a clue about things and especially about talking to us or giving us any advice. After waiting for approx 4 hrs for the blood test, the doctor came back and said sorry but the news is not very nice and the role of hospital ends here. I mean, come on you can't deal with a patient who is having a miscarriage in that manner. He wasn't able to offer any further advice when we asked and said there is no specialist available at this hospital and there is no advice available, simply said no for seeking some advice from another specialist available at nearby hospital who they normally contact.

Our main concern has been (for the past 2 days) some information and advice about what's going on and what do we need to do and how to move on from here etc. but the poor hospital really didn't have anything to offer except disappointment. We have always gone through the right process and even this time we went through proper channels of NHS Direct etc. and were advised to go to A&E. But after this experience, won't really recommend this hospital to anyone at all and would wish if the hospital would react on this feedback and would try to improve their standards.

We are still devastated by the sad news and will be but this could have been dealt with appropriately by the doctors by offering the support/advice we required. They could have at least tried to answer the questions we had but say no to everything. Disappointed...
