"Fantastic care in A&E, SAU, B11 & Wd6"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Gynaecology Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Surgical Assessment Unit

(as a service user),

Fantastic care in A&E, Surgical Assessment Unit, B11 & Wd6. Everyone went out of their way to offer a thorough explanation and reassurance.

Wd6 were outstanding, I even got my own mug there and the food was great. All staff were delightful from the A&E receptionist to the consultant that discharged me.

One tiny complaint - it took a long time to get intravenous antibiotics after a decision to give them but I don’t see how the staff on SAU could have prescribed / given them much quicker as so incredibly busy. And when the ward bins need replaced could you consider some soft-closing ones, they seem to clank 24hrs a day and for me and others around me were one of the main barriers to sleep.

Dear Delm84,

Thank you for your lovely feedback - it was nice to hear that you received fantastic care from some of our key services within FVRH that left you both pleased and reassured. Even down to being provided with your own mug really goes a long way to ensure patient centred care is achieved and I am delighted that my colleagues deliver this so well. I very much hope that you are on the road to recovery and wish you all the very best.

Best wishes,

Gavin

I have been asked by my colleague (Pamela Scott, Senior Charge Nurse, ITU / SAU) to post this response on your behalf;

"Thank you for your lovely comments which we will feedback to all of our staff within our areas. Thank you for bringing the noise of the bins to our attention. We recognised that the noise of the bins were impacting our patient's sleep and rest. Therefore, we are currently in the process of replacing them with soft closing ones. I will keep you updated on our progress in this matter"

Best wishes,

Pam

Dear Delm84,

Further to my previous post where I informed you that we were planning to make a change based upon your feedback around the noise of the bins within the SAU - I am delighted to let you know that SCN Pam Scott had a very positive meeting with the relevant department who supply the soft closing bins and shared your experiences. As a result of her meeting she has now ordered the soft closing, noise reducing waste bins for all of her clinical areas including ITU and SAU and they are due to arrive this week. The staff are also reviewing their processes of IV antibiotic administration and hope to embed this change in practice very soon meaning patients receive their antibiotics at the right time every time.

Thank you once again for this vital feedback - through this we have been able to make a positive change that will now benefit our future patients experiences within these clinical areas.

Many thanks,

Gavin Dolan
