"Ectopic Pregnancy -admitted to a&e"

About: Northern General Hospital / Accident and emergency

On the 2nd August I was admitted to A&E via ambulance, suffering with a ruptured tube from an ectopic pregnancy. From accessing the 111 service, right up to my discharge from Royal Hallamshire (after my emergency treatment I was transferred to ward G2 ar Hallamshire) i recieved amazing treatment that ultimately saved my life. Initially ambulance technicians arrived, who requested a paramedic and a further ambulance/paramedics. After alotnof determination from those 5 paramedic staff I was eventually in an ambulance (having dealt with a tricky staircase on one kf the hottest days ever!). I was then admitted to A&E where I had emergency treatment. Although he profedure in itself was upsetting and scary I felt well informed and supported bh the amazing staff throughout. My only regret is that I never learned the names of anyone-from the nurses to the consultant who came across from a while different hospital to complete the surgery.

I had to spend the night in theatre recovery over the 2nd August, as I was not allowed to be moved until the morning. Despite the ward not being “set up” for long term patients in theatre recovery I never experienced this.

The staff af G2 were also amazing where I remained from the 3rd-4th August.

The only difficulty in my hospital stay was that despite suffering from an ectopic pregnancy (after a long battle with infertility), I was placed on a ward with 2 pregnant women. I understand this is unavoidable at times, and I felt that the nurses themselves found the situation difficult. This just feels insensitive at times, although I was able tk manage this-other patients may find this too upsetting?

Overall I was so grateful for every staff member I came into contact with, they literally saved my life and I was told in a&e that my case was potentially fatal. I was also generally treated with sensitivity and compassion during my stay which was really emotionally difficult. I only wish I could thann everyone personally.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We are extremely sorry to learn that you have been through this most difficult and emotional situation. It really will mean a great deal to the staff concerned to know they were able to help you feel more supported through it and we are sorry that the situation on the ward was insensitive in terms of the other patients. This will be sent to the relevant managers to ensure they are aware of it.

With thanks and all best wishes
