I attended the Day Care Surgery Unit to have Transperineal Prostate Biopsies taken on the 17 Aug. From the moment of arriving to leaving I can honestly say the treatment was exceptional, I would like to pay a special thank you to the 2 nurses that were assigned to me, (unfortunately I cannot name them as per the rules of this review) they treated me with the utmost dignity and care, answered all my questions, kept me updated on approx what time I was going for surgery and made me feel confident and relaxed. After surgery and returning to the ward they immediately checked on me, bought me some food and drinks and were very attentive throughout my stay. I never had to ask them for anything, they continually came to me asking if I was OK and due to the procedure I had had it was necessary for me to drink plenty of fluids. Again They kept asking if I wanted more drinks and immediately bought them to me. I noticed how well the other nurses were also looking after the other patients and the whole team worked very well together and seemed very happy, even bursting into low song at one point which made me smile.
The Surgery team were also so good from the nurses that prepared me, the anaesthetist who explained everything to me and the surgeon who I had seen earlier in day. They even asked if I wanted to see the surgeon again before putting me out. Recovery room nurse was very attentive and soon had me moved back to the ward when ready.
As a 70 year old male I cannot thank the whole team enough for their duty of care, their kindness, the respect they afforded me and their thorough professionalism, they are a credit to themselves, to the hospital and the NHS. I only hope that if I need further treatment The West Herts Trust sends me back to this hospital. Thank you all for your excellent care.
Peter Jones.
