"Waiting too long at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham)

(as a relative),

My son had an appointment for an orthodontic examination.

After waiting for over an hour his name was called. The first thing the doctor asked was has he had an x-ray. The answer was not, so we had to walk to the other side of the hospital which was a long way for me as I suffer with a bad back. We then had to wait again for the x-ray, then we had to walk all the way back and wait to be seen again.

We could have been told when we got there to go straight to x-ray, which could have saved a lot of time and waiting about.

This also cost me another hour to pay on the car park charges.

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with your son.

We apologise for your experience which must have been very frustrating.

We are currently working on a system which will enable us to track patients who have a number of appointments within the outpatients department. This will allow us to plan patient pathways more carefully so that we can minimise the amount of wasted time and journeys patients have to make.

Once again, we are very sorry for your unsatisfactory experience – please be reassured that we are already trying to resolve this situation.

If you would like us to discuss this further please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service who will be pleased to assist you. You can contact them by phone 0121 371 3280, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk, via the hospital website http://www.uhb.nhs.uk/pals-contact.htm or in person by dropping in between 10am-4pm (Mon-Fri) to the PALS office located to the left of the Information Desk inside the Main Entrance.
