"Since when were receptionists Doctors?"

About: Peel Hall Medical Centre

So I saw a particular doctor A couple of weeks ago and she arranged bloods and a scan - very lovely GP - my problem is the receptionists who seem to think they’re Doctors and that it’s perfectly acceptable to give you a diagnosis when you’ve already explained you haven’t seen a doctor about your tests.

I phoned on Tuesday I called and a very polite lady answered the phone, I asked if my scan was back to which she advised no, I asked if my bloods were explaining that I needed to discuss them with a doctor, instead of just agreeing they were back, she decided to tell me there was a problem with my testosterone levels and that they were too high - which when I told her she’s just pretty much told me what my diagnosis is, she went a little jittery on the line - there needs to be boundaries because it’s not their place to diagnose or give out such vital and sensitive information!

Wednesday I called to check if my scan was back to which I was told yes and that there was something I needed to collect from the doctor, said the pill then backtracked and Just told me to come to the surgery the next day, so I did and this is why I’m absolutely livid..

I went to reception and there were two ladies on, I gave my details and advised I was told I needed to come collect something from the doctor, I said I wasn’t told what, to which one lady rather rudely questioned if it was a script or a sick note I explained again, that I didn’t know I was just told to collect something so again she asked me what, I said “can you not just check my records and you’ll see what, I wasn’t told anything and I haven’t spoken to a doctor” to which she wasn’t overly enthusiastic about checking my records - then after doing so found out it was some information leaflets to which she decided to say out very loud “it’s just information about your polycystic ovaries, have you seen a doctor about your results” to which I again explained I hadn’t spoke to a doctor about my results! 20-25mins later she came back with the information leaflets and told me again it’s about PCOS to which I responded “it’s nice that when I’ve told a receptionist I haven’t spoken to a doctor about my results that you felt the need to give me my diagnosis when it’s not your place to do so” to which she just told me to speak to the doctor if I have any questions! This was her telling me in front of a full waiting room of patients and a large queue, not even remotely quiet about it either! This is a diagnosis that I was hoping to not get and was very upset to find this is what is wrong with me and to have a receptionist tell me and not a doctor is absolutely disgusting, even more so tell me very loudly in front of so many people with absolutely zero respect or confidentiality! Is this acceptable? Because I too work as a GP receptionist and wouldn’t dream of handling any situation like this and actually came away in tears! I would like a response and something doing about this because this is unacceptable!
