"Ward 18 - end of life care"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital / Clinical haematology

Heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff on Ward 18.

Following a number of visits to the hospital over the last year - my father, who had a terminal blood condition, finally died in hospital in April of this year. Throughout the last 18 months, the NHS have supported his condition with all possible care and consideration, and his final days in hospital were no exception.

The ward is a clean and cheerful place, the nursing teams helpful and efficient and the Consultant , throughout Dad's illness, helped both him and the family deal with the progression of his condition to the end.

The teams that cared for him in his final days were competent and compassionate, extending this to the family which made a huge difference to such a stressful and unhappy time.

Good end of life care is something that you only have one chance of getting right - my father died in a safe and caring environment, pain free, dignity intact, with his family and a team of very competent nursing staff and medical professionals. We cannot thank them enough for everything they did.

The NHS is a remarkable organisation and I will always be grateful.
