I visited the Early Pregnancy Unit at 9 weeks pregnant as I’d been experiencing cramps and bleeding the previous day, and was due to fly out to LA on a work trip that afternoon.
From the outset I was treated with kindness, warmth and compassion by the nursing staff. The doctor did my initial consultation, and after explaining my situation she said she would prioritise my scan, so that if there were no issues, I would be able to still catch my flight. The nursing sonographer couldn’t have been more tactile and thoughtful in her approach. She explained what she would be doing step by step, and reassured me not to worry if she was quiet while scanning me, as it takes a bit of time to establish what is happening. A nurse provided me with the report after the scan was complete, and again was absolutely lovely.
The team are clearly rushed off their feet, as they are one of very few units open at the weekend and have to care for both walk-in patients and emergency arrivals. Nevertheless, I felt cared for throughout my time there, and luckily there were no issues with my pregnancy.
The only negative is one member of the reception staff I found to be very unfriendly and rude, which isn’t the best welcome to have when you’re stressed about your pregnancy.
Thanks to all who treated me.
