I would just like to thank all of the staff who were involved in my sons eye surgery today.
We kept well informed of what would happen in the morning of the operation during the pre-op phone assessment. We arrived at 7:30 to Amazon Reception and were warmly welcomed during check in. Thomas consultant and anesthetist were promt and explained clearly to all of us what would happen and approximately when and why. The nurse and trainee nurse where friendly and efficient when doing observations and kept Thomas very relaxed during the morning.
The play specialist was very engaging with Thomas as she explained what would happen to him. Then found the magician who made him a lovely balloon dog.
When it was time for his operation the proceedure of putting him under was as painless and as quick as possible.
The recovery nurses where amazing with Thomas as he woke up (moaning that they hadn’t made his dinner!) and one even gave him a doughnut of her own for later in the afternoon (which made his day and was all he talked about to family later).
So for a day that I was not looking forward to the staff made it as pleasant as possible and I know that Thomas will feel positive about his next operation in a few months time. Thanks again to all on Amazon Ward, the eye department and surgegical team.
