"Not one bit helpful and rude"

About: Altrincham Hospital

When looking on the nhs website for walk in centres this was the first to come up, had drove all the way here and paid for parking just for my sick 5 month old to be turned away as they do not deal with illness, only minor injuries, didn’t ask the full extent of what was wrong just told me to go to my gp

We are very sorry to receive your comment via the NHS Choices about your experiences at Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit. Mrs Kirrane, Manager for Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit is sorry that it was not possible to examine your child and for the distress this caused you. Mrs Kirrane recognises that this must have been an extremely anxious time for you; however it was not appropriate for the staff at the unit to review your child. Mrs Kirrane has explained that the unit at Altrincham General Hospital is staffed by experienced emergency nurse practitioners who can assess and treat a wide range of minor injuries including broken limbs, simple wounds, bites, minor burns, cuts and lacerations.

We have investigated your report that you were directed to the Minor Injuries Unit following your search on the internet and the results found on an NHS website. We were able to replicate a search for Walk In Centres and indeed were directed to a page on the NHS Choices site, which listed Altrincham Hospital alongside Trafford Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary. In view of this we will be sending the findings of the search to NHS Choices to ask that they remove Altrincham Hospital from any link to Walk in Centre searches, to ensure your experience is not repeated. We would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.

It is difficult to respond to all the posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information, therefore if you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, please feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk.
