About: Bursledon Surgery

I had an appointment with the doctor last Wednesday at 1640. The appt. was to ask for a blood test following an examination for possible gout diagnosis at South Hants A&E 4 days earlier.

Like most people I visit the doctor only when I have a problem with the aim of discovering more about the problem and also what steps I can take to help myself. The consultation with the doctor was an experience that left me feeling very angry and distressed. He was rude and extremely patronising when I asked questions about possible causes of gout and its treatment. It may be that causes of gout are not scientifically known at this moment but as a patient I do not necessarily know that and it is perfectly reasonable for me to enquire. Similarly, my questions about possible treatment were met with"I don't know" replies. He then said he had other patients to see, implying that I was wasting his time.

I am not usually moved to write letters of complaint but this sort of behaviour from a professional supposed to give help and advice on health matters is unacceptable to me. In fact, the previous week my son came away equally upset after a consultation with the doctor. He found the doctor's attitude rude and patronising.

I am now considering changing surgeries where I hope to find more sympathetic and understanding medical professionals.
