I was booked in for shoulder surgery on the Friday, with a pre op the Monday before. At the Pre op it was brought up that I was Diabetic and on an afternoon list apparently this is not allowed under hospital guidelines despite the fact I (and my Doctors) consider me a very low risk.
My surgery was cancelled with 4 days notice that had been booked over a month prior to this day. The main reason cited was night staff couldn't cope with a type 1 Diabetic which I find ludicrous as I look after myself and have automated insulin delivery (which they also couldn't get their heads around). I've been diabetic for 28 years and haven't ever come across anything like this previously.
On a second note I'm transgender and put my preferred name on the pre op paperwork, This seemed to cause more confusion than I would have imagined and I was mis-gendered frequently.
"Disappointed"
