Absolutely appalling. I cannot believe that a hospital can be so poorly managed. My elderly father underwent cataract surgery last month, something which he’d been waiting an atrociously long time for. I tried contacting the hospital numerous times to no avail. Finally when the wait became ridiculous I decided to physically go to the hospital to find out why. I was told that they were waiting on a lens for his eye which has to be ordered to the specifications of each patient. But even after receiving the lens the hospital had delayed in contacting us with the appointment. I was given the appointment letter for my fathers surgery which was to take place on 25/06/18. A week prior to the much awaited surgery date, I received a call from the hospital saying that they couldn’t perform his op on that date due to unforeseen circumstances and changed the date to a week later. Then on the day of his surgery, unknown to us my father had surgery on the wrong eye!!! We were told that they’d operated on his left eye instead of the right because the aforementioned ‘special lens’ which was the reason for the whole delay hadn’t even been ordered!! The doctor hadn’t signed the necessary forms, so the lens never arrived. Needless to say I was fuming. It’s been exactly 4 weeks since his surgery, and my father is STILL awaiting his 2 week post op appointment! After calling repeatedly and leaving numerous messages, the hospital still failed to contact us. How ridiculous.. the hospital is so poorly managed, there is no thought for the patients or their wellbeing. The departments lack communication skills, and phone services are terrible. I had a call the day after my fathers surgery asking if he’d had his appointment with the GP yet so that he could be booked in for his operation!! Doesn’t anyone write up reports and read anything in that place?? Totally unacceptable and terribly poor service.
