"My pain was not taken seriously "

About: Hull Royal Infirmary / General surgery

(as the patient),

I went into A&E with really bad pain in the right abdomen.

The doctor in A&E who I saw was very helpful and concerned and did everything to find a cause for my condition so I was sent up to a ward where the nurses were very nice but sometimes very under staffed. I am happy with the attention that the nurses gave.

However I am not happy about a few things, the time for the turn lights out at 12.00am and sometimes even later, so I could not sleep until the early hours of the morning and became very tired and groggy which is no good for people being ill.

I was assigned to go into theatre to dignose my problem but I had to wait 2 days to go down for my operation but i could not eat or drink anything on the 1st day as I thought I was going to have the operation but was only told at 8pm that they cancelled it because of emergency cases.

I've ended up tired, hungry and very dehydrated. I currently have a croaky voice and dry lips.

When I did eventually have my operation I spoke to a doctor the same day but could not understand him, neither could some of the staff. Then the very next day I was told to go home in a lot of pain and very upset.

I've been tired and hungry throughout my stay in hospital and feel I have not been taken very seriously about my pain and think I should have stayed one more day after my operation for my body to catch up with itself. Now left with not only just my pains but emotionally spent.
