"Being forgotten"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Outpatients

(as the patient),

I had an appt at 9.00 to have some bloods taken for tests. I arrived at the Medical unit on time and the receptionist advised Department that i was there. 20 mins later the receptionist asked if i had been seen as i was still waiting, she went to see what was happening. The nurse who was taking my blood came in 5 mins and apologised that they had forgotten I was sat there.

I was taken into a cubicle and had a cannula fitted, they went away and said they would be 10 mins.  20 mins later they came back, took my blood and then I was to have an injection of Hormone, left for 20 mins then have another test, the time now was 10 o'clock. Nurse advised they would be back at 20 past 10.

At 11.30 they hadn't come back, I asked a passing nurse if they could find out what was happening, they never came back to tell me. 10 mins later the nurse who was treating me walked past my cubicle , I thought they must be coming soon as they saw me sat there. They didn't. 10 mins later they walked past again, this time on their way back I stopped them and asked if they were coming to take the last blood sample. They looked at me with a vague expression, then it seemed to click.

They apologised and said they had forgotten about me.  I had been sat there there for an hour and a half, I had had nothing to eat or drink since the day before (I was to fast from midnight ).  In my opinion this is really bad, a nurse that forgets about their patients...

Dear Disappointed

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. I am so sorry that you had such a long wait in our Medical Day Unit.

I have passed on your comments to the management team responsible for the Unit to highlight the issue you have raised here so that we can learn from your experience.

Please accept my apologies for the distress and upset that this caused.

Kind Regards

Nicole
