"Dirty patient toilets"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)

(as a friend),

I have been visiting the RAH in Paisley for over a week with my friend and we cannot get over how dirty the toilets for Male and Female at the entrance at the main part of the building are.

The smell of the toilets is so terrible that it made my friend physically sick that she had to find somewhere else to use the toilet especially myself as there was no place clean enough to inject my insulin.

Something needs to be done as a priority about cleanliness of patient toilets and for visitors to the hospital as something as dirty as this could lead to people with infections. Visitors should not have to buy cleaning wipes to clean the cubicles and areas in toilets when this should be done by hospital staff.

I raised exactly the same problem on behalf of a constituent recently and was assured that the problem with the cleanliness of the toilets at the RAH would be addressed. I am disappointed that it appears to still be a concern.

Dear Waterloo

Thank you for getting in touch.

I am disappointed to read about your experience at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. What you have detailed in terms of cleanliness is not acceptable and I would like to apologise for this.

I have shared you concerns with my colleagues in Facilities and have asked that they act upon the issues you have raised.

Please pass on my apologies to your friend.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Waterloo

Please accept my sincere apologies that you found the public toilets situated at the main entrance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital to be in an unacceptable condition when you recently attended with your friend. Please be assured that there is a robust cleaning schedule in place to ensure these toilets are maintained to a high standard, however, due to the high footfall through this area there may be times that unfortunately issues may arise; air conditioning has been checked within both toilets and is functioning fully. The Domestic Services Manager will increase checks within these public toilets ensuring that cleanliness issues are rectified in a timely manner.

Again, please accept my apologies as the Domestic Services Department at Royal Alexandra Hospital strive to ensure that standards are maintained, therefore, it is disappointing that your experience fell short of these standards. If you would like to discuss your concerns further then please do not hesitate to contact Morag Walsh, Acting Sector Facilities Manager on 0141 314 7000.

Regards

Scott Young

Corporate Facilities Lead
