"Changing GP due to change of address"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as the patient),

I have been with my GP practice since I was born 61 years ago.

In that time I have had several addresses and have not had to change my doctors who I am extremely happy with. I would like to know why I have to change now as I have not lived within the postcodes before. I am extremely unhappy that I have to change now.

I do have problems with mental health and I feel it would be detrimental to myself and my health to have to start from the beginning with a doctor who has no idea who I am or what I am going through. As I have said I have been with my doctor for many happy years and strongly object to having to move. I also cannot find anywhere to voice my complaint either by telephone or by letter.

I will also be interested to see if you make any comment or reply to this story

Dear Taurus12

I am sorry to hear about the distress caused to you by having to change GP’s. GP practices have a defined catchment area and can remove patients who move outside that area. All GP practices have their own complaints procedure, so we would suggest that you raise your concerns with the practice directly, particularly if you have specific health concerns that you wish to discuss and feel that this is affected by a change of GP.

You mention that you were unable to find information on how to complain, this page will give you more information about the complaints process:
http://www.nhsggc.org.uk/get-in-touch-get-involved/complaints/

You might also find it helpful to contact the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS). The service is free, confidential, independent of NHSGGC, and fully impartial. You can contact them on 0800 917 2127 or visit: www.cas.org.uk/pass

Kind Regards
