As a vulnerable adult with ill mental health, I need reassurance, acknowledgement, patience and clear communication. I believe most adults would be appreciative of such care, I don't believe my needs are high maintenance. I received none of which, throughout my 10 hour stay in A&E last night until well into the morning 06/08/2018-07/08/2018.
I had a fall whilst waiting in a queue and no one checked me over. I explained that the environment was triggering my ill mental health, only to be patronised in an incoherent, dismissive manner. I wasn't even addressed by the correct name.
I was given a morphine like painkiller and left to shut up and put up, approximately three hours after I was offered pain relief and three attempts at reminding them.
Finally I was seen and initially promised a full inspection, including x-ray, scan and so on. They took no blood, nor urine and none of the above, they ceased any sort of investigation treatment and left me with a screwed up piece of paper with some telephone numbers for GUM clinics.
I have since found out that the details given are for walk in and that I should have been given a headed letter instructing potential diagnosis and treatment.
I vowed many years ago to never return to that hospital after a similar unpleasant experience, but but not too long ago, my nan took ill and was treated very well there. I think perhaps they cater best for the elderly. I will never go back for personal treatment. The system needs to be looked at, taken apart and reconstructed, because I truly had an unpleasant experience and do not believe that I was the only one!
