About: Southend Hospital

What I liked

I came into Shopland Ward on 21st November 2011 for an operation to replace a thumb joint. I am terrified of hospitals and arrived a shaking wreck on the morning of my operation. From the moment the smiling receptionist welcomed me and showed me to my bed I started to feel better. Her attitude was warm, friendly and reassuring and this attitude continued with everyone I met throughout my day, from the nurses to the surgeon, the anaesthetists, recovery team, etc. Even the lady serving tea and food was kindness itself. A special mention for a student nurse, for her thoughtfulness and understanding.

Thank you all for making, what was for me, a very scary experience, as pleasant as humanly possible.
