Booked in for a hernia repair in July. Arrived at 8 am and was shown to the ward. Staff were friendly and had time to chat for a few minutes to put me at ease. (I was worried about it all to be honest!).
Didn't actually have the surgery until 1.00 pm so had a nervous wait especially for the first 3 hours I was the only patient in there. Sadly I forgot my book and there was nothing to read to hand so until another couple of patients arrived was a bit stressed.
What was bad:
Nothing really apart from the wait being at the end of the list
What was good:
The attitude of the nursing staff before and after my operation was brilliant;
The quality of the hernia repair seems great, no post-operative problems so far and the wound has healed up well, though I was surprised at the size of incision once I plucked up enough courage to look!
The shot of morphine I received before I left hospital; I felt great the first night. Sadly the industrial strength Ibuprofen just didn't have that same "je ne sais quoi"!
Having only recently returned to Scotland after 40 years down south, I was amazed at how good healthcare is here in comparison, as waiting lists and treatment times were abysmal where I was.
In conclusion, NHS Fife, (the hospitals I visited during the process at Kirkcaldy, Cupar and Dunfermline) deserves credit for the way it is run and I am grateful to them for that.
