"Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour and Addiction"

About: One Recovery Bucks / Aylesbury

(as the patient),

I was fine as a young child, but once hormones kicked in things went very wrong, I became depressed and lonely, I hated school and couldn't work out why I felt so bad,  I had real problems with self worth and appearance and soon got into bad patterns of behaviour around food, it got to the stage where I felt I couldn't control it, so I stopped eating and at 16 found myself in a mental institution for kids.  That didn't help, in fact promising to allow visitors if I ate soon led to bulimia, so I could get my weight up temporarily then lost it all again.

Everything I did from then on became obsessive, life got difficult and lonely and the only thing that helped was drugs!  Speed to begin with and then heroin.  After many years of a lot of heroin, I was put onto one of the few treatments in the country which gave you Dia-morphine, I was on a big dose 500mgs per day with injection, things were a lot better during this time and life carried on nicely, no street drugs, I got a job and a nice flat, but I found myself in an abusive relationship in my late 20's and early 30's and finally plucked up courage to move away.

I was told by the local doctor in in the new area that the treatment would continue, it didn't!  None of the local drug authorities would carry on the Dia-morphine and instead I was put on half oral and half inject able Methadone.  The new treatment caused big problems, I started to drink heavily and my eating disorder was out of control, if it wasn't for a very understanding Doctor who took over my drug treatment, I'm not sure where I would be today.  She listened and understood and has worked towards a better programme of treatment, which  works for me.   Under Doctor Hess, I have been given treatment which has cured my Hepititis C, and the new treatment for my drug condition means that life if good again.

There are some wonderful people in the NHS and she is definitely one of them :)
