"Lack of support"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Accident and emergency

I had a fall at home resulting in paramedics being called out. The two paramedics who came out were second to none. They were able to put myself at ease and that of my two teens. I was taken into a and e where it pretty much went bad from there. I was sent for an x ray and whilst the woman appeared a little inexperienced she was polite and very gentle with me. When I went back in to A and E it all changed. I'd been given morphine and oramorph for the pain. I was told I had a break to the shoulder and a sick note could be obtained from my gp. I was out of it and unable to ask questions. I wasn't asked if I needed clarification. The nurse at this point was keen to see me out. I was given no virtual fracture clinic appointment and no management plan. I was in the same sling the paramedics had put me in which by the time I left was sagging. My hand, arm had not been checked despite saying how painful they were. They hadn't come out of the sling and movement not checked.

I was told to leave... no discharge notes or explanation as to what I'd done or how to care for myself! I left the hospital still in my pjs with my two teenagers, feeling very wobbly on my legs and feeling dizzy. I wasn't asked how I felt when I stood up, despite feeling clumsy.

I called my gp surgery who informed me A and E should have sorted a sick note and should have sorted an appointment with the virtual fracture clinic. My accident happened Monday! I called the fracture clinic Friday and STILL an appointment had not been made. I made the appointment with a lovely lady.

A friend who is a nurse was appalled by the state my sling was in. I'd not had the support from the sling which was SUPPOSED to be in right angle.

I am not happy in having a telephone conversation to assess how I am. My fingers have swollen slightly, the pain has not settled and I feel blooming uncomfortable. Whilst I understand there are a lack of resources and not enough staff, mistakes have been made!
