I am beyond shocked at the care my mum received during her stay in ward 5 at Dr Gray’s. The fact that after major abdominal surgery, none of the nurses the following day helped her to get ready or to shower, and that one nurse nodded their head towards my mum saying bed bath to the HCA who then said nah.
As well as the HCA who removed her TED stockings without asking and said that’s when you get up for a shower. Or the fact that after return to the ward, she never saw a nurse for 3 hours despite have a PCA of morphine, catheter and drain in situ. Or the fact none of them asked if she needed anything.
I have to thank the wonderful healthcare assistant who made my mum feel at ease and helped her when she required, but also checked on her regularly to make sure she was okay. What also shocks me is that another patient helped my mum to get to the toilet, because the nurses were never about. As a student nurse myself I found this lack of care and respect utterly shocking and unacceptable.
