What I liked
The midwives who were friendly and helpful, pre and post delivery.
The theatre staff who made a difficult delivery easier and painless.
The NICU and SCBU staff who made the following days (when my baby needed special care) easier to deal with.
Private room - really nice.
Menu - varied and tasty. Served up by friendly faces. The girl is a ray of sunshine.
What could be improved
I didn't like:
My induction date being chopped and changed. Turns out QA was short staffed and didn't let on until it was too late for me to change hospitals.
The inconsistent approach of midwives on maternity bleep when I was going through a long and overdue labour at home. Aim being to delay my arrival at hospital, I felt.
The incorrect selection and unsafe fitting of anti embolism stockings.
QA not keeping adequate stocks of all sizes of anti embolism stockings.
An urgent x ray (for a suspected blood clot on the lungs) being delayed by several hours by the same doctor who sent porters to the wrong floor (to collect / deliver me) twice.
In spite of my asking several times over the following several days, nobody could or would tell me the results of this x ray.
Waking up to several staff around my bed, in spite of my records saying I didn't want this to happen. Embarrassing.
The Unhelpful attitude towards breastfeeding by some of the midwives on the post natal ward. I felt that instead of offering help from the outset, they stood back taking records noting my failings, keeping me in hospital a lot longer than most new mums.
The areas relating to the anti embolism stockings, x rays and doctors who send porters to the wrong floors need to be addressed urgently. What happened to me was bad practice at best and downright dangerous at worst.
