"Most staff very good but..."

About: St James's University Hospital / Gynaecology

I was admitted for a routine procedure to j24. After been shown to bed the consultant and colleagues came to see me. This consultant raised their voice very loudly so everyone could hear what they were saying. This person i felt was very rude and abrupt with me and had no empathy at all.

This person made me feel like I was bothering them for my particular procedure.

I felt like I was getting a telling off for a certain matter and my procedure was not explained to me or follow up care nothing by this consultant.

This was the first time we'd met as I had seen other registrars in the clinic.

The anaesthetist was brilliant can't fault them at all. Very calming and reassuring. Went through the anaesthetic choices and explained each in detail.

The staff nurses worked real hard and very friendly and attended to you in a timely manner if you pressed your buzzer.

Nurses explained what they were going to do with you and were really good with a good bedside manner.

The girls who brought food round were lovely and polite. Always gave you a choice and the food was very good.

All in all a positive experience apart from the consultant being abrupt and very uncaring like I was just another woman needing surgery on their list.

This person should have a better understanding of what women are going through have a little more empathy treat a woman as a person and not just another body. I felt this person showed no person centred care and I came out of hospital the day after surgery feeling very deflated and upset.

I would not want to be seen by this consultant again in the future should I need any more surgery.
