I attended an education class for patients requiring a hip replacement. The nurse gave us detailed information about the planned sequence of events, before, during and after surgery. We had to listen carefully as she gave a lot of info rapidly in a short time. Some visual aids would have helped. Much of the info was new to me (eg no elastic support stockings now advocated) and it would have been helpful to receive a handout to take home . There was an assumption that everyone had another adult at home to help and support which of course is not always the case. We were provided with a DVD about the surgical procedure which I have since watched and found very helpful. also a booklet. However, most people present seemed to have been given these earlier. I am not sure why I had not. I left feeling much better informed and reassured. The idea of a group session for this purpose was very good although y appointment letter did not indicate it would e a group format. Perhaps it should. . The general feeling of the group seemed to be one of appreciation for this service, as evidenced by the round of applause she received at the end! Thank you for providing this.
