"86 years old diabetic mother."

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

My mother was admitted to A & E yesterday by ambulance feeling unwell with a possible stroke. She was given an ECG and a CT scan fairly quickly but 6 hours later she was released without any communication other than saying that the scan was clear.

I'm disappointed that there was no or very little communication plus no food offered to an elderly diabetic who's physical condition worsened as a result of this lack of food.

I'd just like an insight into the decision so send my mother home because now we are back to square 1 and about to start the whole process off again to find out if she did have a stroke.

I am very sorry to read of your disappointing experience at our A&E Department at the Royal Stoke hospital. I will ensure your comments are shared with the management team for their reflection. If you would like us to look further into the concern you have raised around the decision to discharge your mum, please don't hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Team (PALS) on 01782 676450 or via email to patientadvice.uhnm@nhs.net. They will be very happy to help.

With best wishes

Rebecca Pilling, Quality Improvement Facilitator; Patient Experience.
