"Virtually housebound due to inability to breathe"

About: Isle of Wight NHS Trust

(as a service user),

Despite being a non smoker I developed lung problems which started with a series of chest infections. Over the last eight years I have been treated for Asthma. I do not have Asthma Triggers, only severe breathlessness on a daily basis. Despite saying that the preventer and rescue inhalers weren't making any difference, the doctor declined to change my treatment stating "all inhalers are the same".

I recently saw a locum Consultant who upon reviewing my blood test results immediately diagnosed severe eosonophillic asthma, which explained why my treatment didn't work! I am furious as I have been on oral steroids for ten years. And gained a lot of weight. I now have to come off of the oral steroids in order to be assessed again for a different treatment of monthly injections.

So much misery and time wasted. Particularly as I am now virtually housebound due to inability to breathe.

Dear Pstsy

I am so sorry to read of your experience, and that you appear to have received incorrect treatment over the last 8 years, resulting in leaving you virtually housebound.

I am unable to tell from your post under which team this has occurred, from what you have written I am assuming this is the Respiratory Team.

I am not able to respond fully to your comments on this site, but if you wish to discuss this further, and have not already done so please contact the PALS Team on 01983 534850 who will be able to put you in touch with someone who can assist you.

In the meantime I will share your anonymous feedback with the Respiratory Team.

Once again apologies for your poor experience.
