I live in Cardiff and my Father fell 4 months ago and fractured his ankle. He spent 6 weeks in Bath RUH having an orthopaedic operation due to the bone set in the wrong place initially. Then he had an abdominal operation for adhesions from an old hernia operation scar. He was extremely ill for many weeks. The staff at RUH were excellent, very caring and informative.
After leaving Bath RUH my Father was then sent to Frome Community Hospital for many weeks he was 'rehabilitating' and still needing wound care and therapy. Frome Hospital is a clean new local hospital, but the staff fail to keep the family informed about progress and any issues. I live in Cardiff and over the last 6 weeks I have made several efforts to gain an insight into Hospital discharge and social services and what might be available, and whether he has had the flu vaccine - but to no avail. The staff are unable to answer my questions or fail to return any calls. We feel we are not involved in his care and have 'no voice'. There are some individual nurses who seem caring but I never feel welcome visiting (on weekends due to my own work commitments). And when I ask staff about progress they say they are too busy or promise to come and talk but fail to do so.
