"Need the support of mental health services"

About: Somerset NHS Foundation Trust / Adult community mental health

(as the patient),

Since moving to Somerset in 2011 I have noticed a dramatic change in the Mental Health Services. I have chronic depression, anxiety and panic attacks.

When I moved into the area I was referred to The Bridge Day Hospital in Wells. I found the services that were provided really helped me cope with my illness. The art and pottery groups were very helpful as well as meeting people who were having similar problems to you. I felt it was a safe house and I wouldn't be judged or stigmatized.

But since the Bridge closed, I haven't been able to cope as well with my stress. In 2007, I was admitted to Phoenix Ward. I found the O.T groups very helpful and I learnt coping skills with the O.T's. But when I was discharged after 7 weeks I gradually started feeling worse. I was appointed an amazing Care Co-coordinator whom I trusted.

I feel lonely and isolated. I do not have any friends who I can open up to. When the Bridge was open, it was very useful. I have been told that I rely too much on the CHMT which is a surprise to me, I need Day Services ASAP.

Hello,

This story was submitted to Patient Opinion by the Somerset LINk, on behalf of a Somerset patient who has contacted us as part of our 'Patient Stories' project. We will be keeping a record of all stories submitted, and all responses from providers.

Thanks very much to the person who submitted this story, which will be fed back to Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, who are responsible for mental health services in Somerset. I'm glad that you had a good Care Coordinator but I'm sorry that you don't feel that you have enough support in terms of other services. I hope that the Somerset Partnership will be able to point you in the direction of more support and perhaps more services that will be able to help you out.

Thanks again for sharing your story.

Best wishes,

LUCY
