"Uncaring attitude"

About: Brentwood Community Hospital

My husband recently had an accident with a hedge trimmer and sustained a fairly nasty injury. We live very close to BCH so he limped in there in the hope of some help. A very unhelpful receptionist would only offer him a piece of paper with his options as to where he should go. Bearing in mind that he could not drive because blood was pouring from his leg it was shocking that there was no offer at least of some cotton wool or bandage just to stem the blood flow until he could arrange for a taxi to take him to a place that would treat him. I fully accept that the NHS is stretched and that the BCH does not have an A & E department but surely a building that big must have some medical supplies somewhere.

(Our GP surgery was equally unhelpful when he called them. He was advised they were not able to help either.)

Incidentally, when he reached the recommended walk-in centre in Harold Wood (by taxi) he was stunned to see a sign on the door stating that they were not taking patients due to staff sickness - but that's another story.
